My first knitting secret pal swap ever was the Harry Potter swap at Knitty. The box my pal sent me came yesterday, and it’s just stunning. And I do mean stunning!
The sock yarn is absolutely to die for! The colors are even more beautiful than in the picture. But the little owl is just the bees knees! It’s just perfect because I have had a big thing about owls lately and just bought these sweet little handsewn owls for myself. And strangely, I’ve been wanting a Moleskine journal for ages, but haven’t indulged myself. I still can’t figure out who my partner is (even though she has given me a lot of clues), so whoever you are, THANK YOU so very much! I’m going to enjoy everything in my lovely surprise box.
If only everything in life was that nice. This morning, while watching the littles play in the frontyard, my Mom, who is visiting, and I sat on the front steps. I was doing more work on the Giotto tank that is part of my ten week plan. The get health/loose weight part is going great, and I thought my knitting was ahead of schedule.
I’ve got to knit 11" in moss stitch and then do the edging and straps and put the tank together. I figured I could knit an inch plus a little bit each week and be done at the end of my ten week plan, and hopefully, be back to a size that would fit into the tank, since fast living and steroids had made me a bit pudgy since I started it. It looks good, right? I’m just finishing week three and that’s well ahead of three inches, probably more like five. It looked good until I found this.
How did I get a big freaking hole in the middle of my tank? It’s inches back. And, I’m a little bit nervous about laddering back and fixing it, since this is in Moss Stitch. I’ll have to wait until I’m feeling particularly confident to attempt it. If anyone has advice or suggestions for doing this and having it turn out just right, I’m all ears!
I can’t remember if I’ve told y’all, but I getting ready to open a new online yarn shop. It will open this Thursday, July 5th, at noon. the url is http://hyenacart.com/elliebelly. Hyena Cart is a cool place where moms, especially cloth diapering moms, hang out. The Elliebelly shop will have lots of fun yarn, including kits with yarn and patterns for childrens’ sweaters and vests, as well as Blue Faced Leicester and Organic Merino for diaper covers. And I’ll add in some sock yarn too. Please come and visit the store when it opens this Thursday. There will be a few *special* promotions for the store’s grand opening. Here’s a little taste of one of the new yarn colorways.
What a cool package! Love the little felted owl and pattern…even better, you can make other owls in other sizes and colors if you like! 🙂
As for the hole in the tank? Don’t sweat it. Cut an 8″ piece of yarn, thread it through from the back, snug it up around the hole, tuck in the tails. As floofy as that yarn is, no one will ever know the difference! Is there an actual dropped stitch, or just a hole? If there’s a drop, be sure to run your rescue yarn through the drop to prevent it from raveling later.
That pink and green is PERFECT! Your dyeing makes me want to knit socks. I think I shall sometime this fall.
I have been drooling over your echino fabric since you posted it. Really, I have been drooling over it for months, but knowing you have some, in the magic city, is a little too much for me to bear…
All these colors are just lovely!
I don’t know how to knit, but want to learn. My MIL had planned on teaching me & my daughter, but is going through chemo, so she’s pretty wiped out.
Not that we have lots of use for sweaters and the like here in FL LOL.
Good luck with the opening of your new store!!
That is a beautiful package! The felted owl is so cute and the yarn is stunning. I hope I can make you half as happy.
I did some shopping for your first package this weekend. I’d love to mail it off right away but I was also thinking that it might be nice to hold on to so I could mail it for your birthday. I haven’t decided what to do yet but I wanted to let you know I was thinking of you.
Ok, so I feel you have been holding out on me not mentioning the new store! Or is my dh bribing you, figuring that payoff is cheaper than yarn? LOL
Also, what is the colorway pictured by the “Sign up for the newsletter” box? It looks bea-u-ti-ful!
One more — I have been collecting some color examples from real life to show you what kind of yarn I want you to try to dye just for me. 🙂
We’ll be at the pool tomorrow……
I agree with knitchick, That will be enough to fool the eye, you could use a crochet hook even, it may take a couple of tries. I have worked with giotto as well.
